Manay Bering is now celebrating her 72 years in the tribe. Her husband died during the typhoon Ulysses that hit their area. Their home was simply built using light materials that are available in their ancestral ground.  Their community has no electricity, no modern communication like cellular phone. They communication with outsiders relied on "pasa-pasa", or simply saying "pakisabi kay". Time is predicted by simply looking at the shadow. Danger of storm is known by mere looking at the skies and cloud formations. 

Manay Bering's children were lucky to finish 3rd year in the High School from the community learning center, 8 kilometers away from their tribal village. In the village, learning to read and write, to count, and to know good manners and right conduct, are enough to be called educated.   

Like many tribal members, Manay Bering worries about the future of her descendants. Will they have sufficient land for their own sustenance? Will they remain at peace with the neighboring communities? Or will they be retreating their ground to a more farther region of the Mt. Sierra Madre?

All these worries depend on what we can do for them.
